SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) for Planning is SAP’s strategic cloud-based planning solution. This means that new functionalities and improvements in the area of planning are mainly provided for SAC Planning. Companies that still require and wish to use an on-premise planning solution can use SAP Business Planning and Consolidation (BPC). This allows planning, budgeting and consolidation scenarios to be adequately implemented in an on-premise landscape.
SAP BW/4HANA does not come with its own planning functionalities. However, it is possible to use SAP BPC as an add-on in SAP BW/4HANA and implement planning scenarios in this way. Depending on which release of SAP BW/4HANA a company is on, a new version of the SAP BPC add-on must also be installed during an upgrade.
In the past, companies using SAP BPC 11.1 and SAP BW/4HANA 2.0 have experienced problems with the technical upgrade to the newer SAP BW/4HANA version 2021. These difficulties were caused by the SAP BPC add-on, which could not be deleted from the existing SAP BW/4HANA system.
To solve this problem, SAP recently published SAP Note 3363060 “Uninstall BPC4HANA”. This makes it possible to delete an already installed SAP BPC4HANA add-on from the underlying SAP BW/4HANA basis if it is no longer used. SAP provides the deletion for SAP BPC 11.1 and SAP BPC 2021 add-ons, which are currently in mainstream maintenance.
SAP Note 3363060 also applies if a company wants to switch off SAP BPC completely in order to map planning tasks with SAP Analytics Cloud for Planning in the future.
SAP Note 3363060 removes existing restrictions when upgrading from SAP BPC 11.1 for SAP BW/4HANA 2.0 to a newer release. The option to uninstall the SAP BPC4HANA add-on offers companies greater flexibility in their choice of future planning solution and simplifies the transition from on-premise planning scenarios to future-proof cloud-based planning with SAP Analytics Cloud for Planning.
