At the award ceremony on December 13, machine manufacturer PILLER and the Heilbronn-based SAP consulting company IBsolution jointly accepted the award. The decisive factor for winning the SAP Quality Award in the Innovation category was that the two project partners succeeded in successfully implementing the IoT portfolio of SAP Leonardo in conjunction with other SAP applications.
With the IoT solution based on the SAP Cloud Platform, PILLER, one of the world's leading manufacturers of high-performance blowers, offers its customers digital services. To increase the reliability of its machines and optimize maintenance processes, the medium-sized company equips its high-performance blowers with sensors. These transmit the plant data in real time to the SAP Cloud Platform, where the data is evaluated. In this way, critical operating states can be detected early and the necessary measures can be initiated to prevent plant downtime. If irregularities occur or the setpoints are exceeded, various processes are automatically triggered: the creation of a ticket in the service portal, an error message to the plant operator, the sending of recommendations for action and notification of the PILLER service. In addition, PILLER customers can monitor and analyse their plants themselves at any time using the cloud-based application.
Additional added value is created by the seamless integration of the IoT application and the cloud platform into the existing SAP system landscape. PILLER uses the SAP C/4HANA Sales and Service Cloud to harmonize all customer-related processes. In addition, the connection to the ERP system S/4HANA enables service billing to be automated and spare parts quotations to be entered easily.
With the Quality Awards, SAP recognizes outstanding achievements in the implementation of SAP software solutions and the fulfillment of SAP's ten quality principles. The innovative IoT application from PILLER and IBsolution is a successful example of the digitalization of the manufacturing industry and the opportunity to generate new business models in this way.
