The SAP Quality Awards recognize outstanding projects in which companies have successfully implemented SAP solutions in line with SAP’s ten quality criteria. With the global implementation of SAP Master Data Governance (MDG) as a central master data system, Voith has made it into the list of finalists in the “Rapid Time to Value” category this year. The project partner for the SAP MDG implementation was the Heilbronn-based SAP consulting company IBsolution.
From paper machines to turbines and generators to drive elements, the globally active technology group Voith offers a broad portfolio of plants, products, services and digital applications. In order to serve the energy, oil & gas, paper, raw materials, and transport & automotive markets with this comprehensive range of products and services, high data quality plays an important role for the Heidenheim-based company. Voith has therefore opted for SAP Master Data Governance (MDG) to put its master data processes on a new footing. With the help of SAP MDG, a central team takes care of creating and maintaining master data and distributing it to the connected systems.
For the implementation of the project, Voith and IBsolution chose an agile approach based on the Scrum methodology. In four-week sprints, the project team implemented a defined scope of tasks. The subsequent retrospective evaluated the results of each sprint to determine whether they met the defined acceptance criteria. Once new features had been implemented, the business department tested them in detail and provided appropriate feedback. This resulted in a continuous improvement process that enabled the project team to react flexibly and proactively to changes and new requirements.
With the introduction of SAP MDG as a uniform tool for master data maintenance and with the expansion of global data responsibility, Voith has succeeded in significantly increasing data quality throughout the company. High-quality, centrally managed and consistent master data is a key factor in Voith’s successful digital transformation and in its ability to offer the company’s customers new, innovative services and thus stand out from the competition.
